Carbon Reduction

Vegetarian food is a whole lot better for everything than meat is. And even thought it’s only a tiny fraction of the amount of greenhouse gases that meat causes, veggies create a bit of CO2e when they are grown, harvested, transported, prepared, cooked, packed and sold and when the leftovers and packaging is disposed of. So even though being the world’s first ever vegetarian restaurant chain is more than half the environmental battle won – there is still more to be done.

Which is why we’ve also decided to be the world’s first-ever low carbon restaurant.

At Otarian we use international standards like BSI PAS2050 to carbon footprint our entire menu so that we know exactly how many CO2e gases our food generates. We were also selected to road test the new Greenhouse Gas Protocol product standard.

And so that you know we carbon footprint all our menu items. We call this Eco2tarian Labelling and it shows the difference in greenhouse gas emissions between our veggie meals and similar meat, fish or egg containing dishes. This way it is easy to understand the environmental benefits of eating veggies instead of dead animals!

Most of us don’t eat enough fruit and vegetables. So why don’t you grab yourself an Otarian Tex Mex Burger and reduce your carbon emissions. It’s that easy and that delicious and the animals will thank you too.
