The global livestock industry has a bigger ecological footprint or should we say hoofprint, and does more environmental damage, than any other industry on the planet. Meat production also requires lots of grain – on average 5.5 kilograms of grain to produce 1 kilogram of meat - grain that could be used to end world hunger and food shortages.
This isn’t good for our appetite.
Veggie production on the other hand uses much less water, emits fewer greenhouse gases, causes less pollution and uses less land and forest areas. So its ecological footprint– although muddy - is dainty and delicate compared to meat.
At Otarian we tread really softly on the earth. We know how each of our ingredients is grown, harvested, transported and packaged and each and every ingredient is eco-sourced so we offer the most environmentally sound dishes available.
Have a look at our CSR if you are keen to know more about this.
